Fake meat isn't selling:

According to GFI, unit sales were down 9 percent in 2023 while dollar sales fell by 2 percent. As a result, the plant-based food market in the US went from being worth $8.2 billion the year before to $8.1 billion. While plant-based creamers, protein powders, liquids, baked goods, desserts, and milk saw slight increases in sales, the consumption of faux-meat and seafood went down for the second year in a row. The report found that six in ten American families bought at least one plant-based alternative in 2023, with 81 percent of that cohort being repeat customers. Across the sector, "household penetration" rates fell, indicating that new customers are less interested in trying the products. Plant-based meat, for example, was able to penetrate 19 percent of households in 2022, but only 14 percent in 2023. "Plant-based meat sales declined more sharply than plant-based food sales overall," editors Caroline Bushnell, Liz Specht, and Jessica Almy wrote, "and surveys of lapsed consumers showed that plant-based meat products are largely not meeting consumer expectations, particularly in regard to taste, texture, and price."

Julia Fay Bernal, the head of the Pueblo Action Alliance (PAA), declined to take up the House Committee on Natural Resource’s invitation to testify at a hearing focusing specifically on “examining the influence of extreme environmental activist groups in the Department of the Interior.” PAA — a group that Interior Secretary Deb Haaland’s daughter, Somah, works for — is alleged to have improperly influenced the agency’s June 2023 decision to restrict fossil fuel activities in Chaco Canyon, New Mexico. “While the extremists at Pueblo Action Alliance appear to have unlimited time and resources for colluding with the Department of Interior, they can’t seem to find a few hours to defend their back-room dealings in a congressional hearing,” Republican Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar, who chairs the committee’s Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee, told the Daily Caller News Foundation in a statement. “The best medicine is always sunshine, and just as with many actions taken by the administration and its radical friends, their refusal to defend their shadowy dealings speaks volumes about the nature of this relationship.”

The GOP needs more actual conservatives:

With solid-red district Republican congress members continuing to vote for endless foreign aid packages and deep state overreach bills such as the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, the GOP continues to take one step forward and ten steps back. There is zero reason, electoral-wise, why Republicans such as Representative Dan Crenshaw (R-TX), Tony Gonzales (R-TX), or Steve Womack (R-AR) needed to vote for FISA or the foreign aid packages yet continue to put America last when putting their integrity on the line to prop up other countries or the U.S. surveillance state. Moderates and their ideological approaches to legislation will be the death sentence to the GOP if America First Republicans do not step up to the plate to vote them or the members they influence out. While Rep. Crenshaw had a more closely contested primary than expected this past election, Republicans like Rep. Gonzales are headed to a run-off primary against famed social media sensation Brandon Herrera. Texas Republicans have a chance to replace a deep-red moderate with someone who embraces their positions, which is precisely the approach conservatives across the country should take to reforming the GOP into an America First party. Any ‘conservative’ like Tony Gonzales that would call Congress members like Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and Bob Good (R-VA) “neo-Nazis” for supporting his primary opponent does not deserve a spot in the conservative movement, let alone a seat in the House Republican Caucus.

Five Democratic members of the House called on President Biden to use his authority to more quickly remove migrants, and also called on Congress to pass a law allowing border officials to rapidly expel asylum-seekers, as they were able to do under the Trump-era policy known as Title 42. .... Well, you know, I can't predict what the probability is, but I can say the urgency. You know, these policies like Title 42, I mean, I think it's been one of the fundamental mistakes around immigration, is to debate whether or not an immigration policy is, you know, motivated by racial animus. By the way, I think a lot of them are, but a lot of people in rural and working-class communities like mine, we come from communities that have been hollowed out by fentanyl, and so we're watching our cousins, our neighbors, our coworkers overdose and die, and we are demanding operational control of the southern border. That can't wait for a perfect immigration policy to come along. MARTÍNEZ: Did you think that the way Donald Trump's administration used Title 42 was an effective way to stem immigration? GLUESENKAMP PEREZ: I don't think it's a question of stemming immigration. I mean, immigration itself is not the problem. The problem is that the U.S. does not have operational control of the southern border, and so a lot of Americans, a lot of American politicians have had this real focus on the very visceral images of the humanitarian crisis of the southern border, but what they're not seeing is what it's like to live in a country that is being run by a cartel.
