It would never even have crossed Thomas Jefferson’s mind to tell the people what kind of horse they could buy or that the government could control the climate. If one of his advisors had suggested to Jefferson—”Mr. Jefferson, because of the climate, we think Morgans are superior horses to Appaloosas and you ought to get Congress to pass a law forcing the American people to buy Morgans. Appaloosas flatulate more than Morgans do and are causing the rise in temperatures we’ve seen the past few decades and government has to stop that”—if someone had proposed that to Jefferson, he would have fallen out of his chair laughing in hysteria. Frankly, I’m laughing right now just writing about it. But that’s what at least half of the American people voted for in 2020, and are preparing to vote for again this year.
