The final $1 million in the bill–ostensibly a part of the school safety aspect of the bill–will create a “tip line” number which children could call in order to anonymously tell on their parents for engaging in alleged improper firearm storage practices. “This amendment was inserted into the conference committee report of the Michigan School Aid bill (HB 5503 CR-1) today,’ the Michigan Coalition for Responsible Gun Owners tweeted. “The conference committee report is expected to be voted on immediately in the House and Senate with no testimony allowed.” The tweet continued: “This amendment would allow ISDs to establish a tip hotline for students to anonymously report parents who improperly store a firearm.
